Designing a Perennial Garden
More and more Americans are staying home in their leisure time. Creating or enhancing outdoor living spaces not only
improves your property value but provides beauty, relaxation and enjoyment.
Perennials, as opposed to annuals, bloom year after year. The word “perennial” is the Latin word for “perpetual”. One fall garden chore is to cut back perennials but once spring arrives, they will return even bigger and better.
Preparing the soil in your perennial garden is the most important first step. For our hard Colorado soils, add compost, which is available at The Landscape Center.
Know what amount of sunlight the bed receives then start shopping! Keep in mind mature size, bloom color, bloom time and different textures for interest. Plant the same variety in groups for more of an impact, avoiding straight lines.
We recommend Soil Pep as a topdressing around perennials and annuals to hold in the moisture and deter weeds and grass and gives your garden a finished, clean look.
Enjoy!
